Construction Notes ) After
finally watching all of Rose of Versailles in two days, I
desperately wanted to make one of Marie Antoinette's dresses.
There were two dresses I really loved in the manga artbook,
therefore based my dress off of those two designs. The original
dress concept was red with straight sleeves and a gathered
underskirt, but I changed it to a vibrant pink which was more
like the anime. I also added puffed sleeves and a ruffled
underskirt, as seen in another dress design she later wears in
the manga. The dresses worn in Rose of Versailles are not
historically accurate which is the reason why I used a Renaissance
pattern instead of the more common 18th century farthingale
gown. I wanted to look as if I just came out of the original
anime, not the actual historical period. My dress is constructed
from deep pink two-tone taffeta, light pink charmuese, and light
pink chiffon with embroidered roses. The elaborate trim is made
from wide gold grosgrain ribbon, sequined rose appliqués, and
gold braided cord. The hat is constructed of white and pink
fluffy feathers and two peacock feathers, all strategically
attached to a woven bridal headpiece and tied down to the wig,
over the crystal crown. Underneath it all I'm wearing two crinoline
petticoats and pink flip-flops! |
